Wastin' Away Again in Margaritaville

I blew out my flip-flop.

No pop top.
No cut heel.
No booze in the blender.

I guess that's not exactly Margaritaville. But I sang that song all the way home.

I had to run to the store the other day for some eggs. Since it was just a run-in, run-out situation, I slipped on my old flip flops that have made a permanent residence by my front door. They're the kind of shoes that you don't really want to go out in but you always slip on to take out the garbage or go get the mail.

I grabbed my wallet and keys and was headed to the car. Before I got to the car I talked myself out of driving. There is a Kroger within walking distance of my apartment. I always walk if the groceries are carry-able. I wasn't going to walk this time because it was hot and I was whiny. But driving makes me feel lazy and wasteful and lame. So I made a quick change of plans and walked in my cruddy old flip-flops.

Somewhere between check out and leaving the store, I blew out my flip flop. One flip I was fine, but by flop I about face planted it. I caught my balance and didn't actually hit the floor. At that point I still had to walk all the way home. Walking in a busted shoe didn't work. I decided to walk home hippie-style and take them both off, but the asphalt was HOT. So I walked with one flip flop and one bare foot. It was horribly awkward. All the Kroger employees on their smoke break seemed to be having a good laugh at my expense.

Kroger never seemed so far away.

Oh dear, that is so funny and so not funny all at the same time. That would have been awful to walk home like that!!!! That's what you get for being ambitious and exercising! :)

Ugh, I had a sandal break once. Luckily I was at a mall in OC and there was a Target right there. :) Sorry you had to walk on hot asphalt. Not cool at all!

I've broken my sandals before--always during a jaunt-a true pain.

You are always good for a laugh!! I had that happen to me when I was walking around with my mom at the Dallas Arboretum. It was not good! Fortunately the ground was not hot, but unfortunately it happened 5 minutes after we got there. You can imagine how many looks I got walking around barefoot through that place!! Glad you made it home alright though:)

HA ha. I hate broken flip-flops. nothing worse. I had a similar experience on hot asphault yesterday..only it was my fault bc I wore heals all day and decided to walk long distances. cool

HATE when that happens!!!
I keep Crocs by all of my doors, for the yard and mail run and such. Love em. Not the prettiest shoe, but very comfy!

LOL! I have too many memories of blown out cheap flip flops! Mostly at the beach on the HOT sand!

There's no way to hang on to a broken flip flop. Good for you for walking anyway. We used to have a grocery store a few blocks away. Brady and Rachel would ride over, then Rachel had to walk back home because I could fit 2 bags of groceries behind Brady. Good times.

Oh Katie! I'm glad I'm not the only one that crazy stuff like that happens to. Sorry you had to walk home on the hot asphalt.

I lost my favorite pair of black flip flops a few weeks ago on a walk with the kids- about a quarter of the way in...I had to walk in the grass, all the while my kids saying to me that I shouldn't be walking in other people's grass- true- but what other choice did I have! Hate when that happens!

That sucks! Walking on hot asphault reminds me of a story about a dufas I went on a couple dates with a few years ago...we met at a waterpark one afternoon and he forgot to bring shoes. He ran across the hot parking lot only to get blisters on the bottom of his feet and then whine about it. We left after only one slide! Stupid! Anyway, glad you didn't burn your foot!
