Friend For The Day

***Cups courtesy of IKEA...since a few of you have asked.***

Six brightly colored cups at the very edge of my kitchen counter can only mean one thing...I've had company. (Mostly short company with small arms...which explains why the cups are at the very edge of the counter.)

I had someone over for lunch yesterday with all her FIVE kids. She moved into this new ward about the same time I did. I sat close to her at church on Sunday and neither one of us knew the other person was new, too. Upon finding out, I just blurted out the question and asked her over for lunch. Not like me. I always plan things out. Normally I would think...I should have her over. And probably think about asking her for months and probably never follow through. And if I did follow through, I would have asked at least a week in advance and stressed the rest of the week about cleaning my house and what to fix for lunch. It was such a relief to have someone over on short notice. I had less than 24 hours to stress about it. I couldn't scrub every bathroom with a toothbrush or even run to the store to pick up something for lunch. It was nice to have an excuse for everything not to be perfect.

It was also nice to have a friend for the day. Besides my time in Utah, I haven't visited with friends since May. Moving is so hard.

First of all, where did you get those cute cups? So fun! Second, good for you for once again going out of your comfort zone. I seem to have the same problem...good intentions for parties or just inviting people over but never following through. Hmmm, wonder where you got it from!

Good for you! You are much more exciting and spontanious than me! even though its not like you to do something like that... I dont think I would do it on a whim (sp?). I need to do more of that!

Where DID you get those cups? Cute.
Dave likes to invite new people over after church, as in - come home with us right now or in an hour or two. I always get after him when he does that because it is so stressful to me. I ask him if he will invite someone over NEXT Sunday. Then the family has schedule changes or our kids have meetings or firesides or something and it often falls through. So I've learned to leave for church with the house picked up and some food of some sort in the fridge. It's all or nothing around here.
Good for you for just 'blurting' an invitation.

I am glad you had her and the kids over! Moving to a new ward is definitely not the best, but it sounds like you are doing great meeting people!

You always say that you don't do things like this... but you are so good at it! Just like how you set up a play group in your other ward! Way to go!

I got your comment on my blog-you are such a dork for not calling me..=) I would LOVE to come and I'm so glad you invited me, but instead of my normal 3 wild children I am up to 5 tomorrow and I wouldn't want to invade anyone's house with my own personal gang...I also promised them we would go swimming. Believe me I'd much rather be eating lunch and talking with friends than putting on a bathing suit and sweating. Let's PLEASE get together soon I would love to!!

Great impromptu lunch idea! I agree that it is probably easier to do something like that spur of the moment so you have no time to stress about all the details. Way to step out of your box! I hope you had fun.

Good for you. I'm the same way. Plan things out, stress about it, become a cleaning freak. It's good to make a change. And I'm sure you had fun!

I am part of your fan club saying good stuff Katie! Isn't funny how we all have those insecurities and then realize if the shoe were on the other foot, we would just like to spend time with another great lady!
