We Thank Thee Oh God For a NEW Prophet

I attended ward conference this afternoon and had the opportunity to sustain President Monson as our new prophet. I had an incredible experience as I raised my arm in his favor. For the first time since the announcement of our new prophet, I really felt like he is the man required to meet the needs of the church at this time. I knew I could support and sustain this man as prophet, seer and revelator of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

President Monson has been an apostle my entire life. I don't even know how the church functions without him. He holds a special place in my heart. I've always been fond of his stories and his wisdom. He is a tender and loving man. And while my love for President Hinckley has not changed, my heart is open and I know that President Monson will fulfill the Lord's work as he serves as our prophet.

I've alway been hesitant to share my feelings on things of the Gospel on my blog. I feel like I can be open about so many parts of my life, but the Gospel is so sacred to me. It's a HUGE part of who I am. I suppose I have a fear of rejection or or of my words being taken too lightly. Elder Ballard recently addressed the students at BYU Hawaii and told them to consider sharing their views of the Gospel on their blogs and using new media to answer questions about the church. As far as I know, only members of the Gospel read this blog, but in case there is anyone out there, I am trying to be more open and share things that are so dear to me.

I write about the changing of prophets, not only to share my feelings and support of the new prophet, but for my own records. When I look back years later, I will know what was going on in my life when President Hinckley died and we sustained President Monson. I look forward to hearing from him as the prophet of our church.

I love President Monson's stories! He has so many, and his demeanor and candor are always appropriate. My friend in Idaho's friend, was in Pres. Monson's ward a long time ago, and she said that his wife would sit and listen and take notes when he spoke and then correct him when they got home! I think that is awesome- she would tell him that he was monotone or when to add emphasis- that is great- she sounds wonderful too!!

Years ago when you were quite young, we had a regional conference in downtown LA. Pres. Monson and Elder Holland were the visiting authorities. I remember it being an excellent conference but when it was time to leave, no one wanted to go. The pianist began playing God Be With You Till We Meet Again and we all began singing. Pres. Monson took out a white handkerchief and waved it to the congregation before he walked off the stage.

I too know that he will be a beloved prophet and that he has the gifts needed to lead the church at this time in history.

I'm right there with you... its so sacred and I have a hard time writing things that are that close to my heart. we just went to the world wide leadership training, and he spoke and he is an amazing man! It was so touching to hear him speak as the new Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints!
Its just so comforting to know that the Lord knows exactly what is going on and we don't need to vote or worry about who will take the place as the President and Prophet of our church!
Thanks for sharing things so close to you!

I've always loved President Monson... and his stories. I attended the worldwide leadership training Saturday night and when he started to speak I just had this confirmation that he is who should be leading the church right now. I can't wait for our ward conference next Sunday so that I too can sustain him!

I have never realized that but he has been an apostle my entire life too!

I recently read a blog written by a great granddaughter of Pres. Hinckley and she talked about how she thought it would be hard to have a new prophet. She said at Pres Hinckleys graveside service she said she just knew it was him and was so happy.

We had ward conference on the day Pres. Hinckley died. I got to sustain him the last day he was here. I will always cherish that.
