Random Katie

Betheny tagged me for random facts. I know I've played this game a couple times so I included all new facts this time. This is a list to top all lists, so no one tag me for random facts for a while. I've exhausted my resources.

Here we go:
  1. I'm more competitive than I give myself credit for. When Betheny posted her random facts and challenged those she tagged to beat her 37, I had to make it a nice even 50. I don't like to participate in challenges / games / sports, etc that I can't win.
  2. For a couple of years in college I worked as an aid to a man with physical disabilities. He could not speak or even move his hands to sign. He communicated to me through an alphabet consisting entirely of facial expressions.
  3. I spent a year after college working as the "Safe and Drug Free School Coordinator" for Reynoldsburg city schools. Among my many odd duties, I drug tested student athletes, taught a smoking cessation class, and ran a drug-free club at the junior high.
  4. I hate grating cheese.
  5. I love the smell of cheap shoes…I occasionally walk into a Payless just to take a sniff.
  6. I loved high school. Probably because it was the last time I was "cool." Although, truth be told I wasn't even cool then. Just uninhibited.
  7. I have a weakness for costumes. I'll take any excuse to dress up. I have not one, but two 30 gallon Rubbermaid containers of costumes. I start planning next years Halloween costumes moments after Halloween is over.
  8. I hate shaving my legs. I probably do it about six times a year.
  9. I've never lost the game "Mad Gab."
  10. I have wet the bed at least once during every pregnancy.
  11. I been to 30 states, but never left North America.
  12. I hate the smell of Fritos.
  13. I worked at a fabric store for one year in college.
  14. I love fabric. I could spend days locked in a fabric store just envisioning things…quilts, crafts, clothes, home décor, you name it. I always loose track of time when I'm shopping for fabric.
  15. I love math. Thanks to my dad and Grandpa Benson (and probably a long line of family members before that) math is second nature to me.
  16. I'm very accurate at measuring things. I know that sounds like a lame and worthless skill, but it's come in handy during many home repairs and remodeling projects. If I left the measuring up to Spencer we'd run into problems.
  17. I have received every job I've ever interviewed for.
  18. I have broken my tailbone something like 7 times. I've lost count. Among the many odd ways I've broken it: standing on a basketball and falling off, sledding on a lunch tray, attempting to skateboard, falling off a barstool, and the topper…chasing a pan of potatoes down an icy driveway.
  19. I get tense listening to people eat. I really can't stand the sound.
  20. One time in college, I snuck a waffle iron into the library for an early morning study group. We headed up to the forth floor and made waffles while preparing for a final…which I aced by-the-way.
  21. My favorite class in college was titled: Persuasion, Social Influence and Compliance Gaining.
  22. I collect Kool-Aid Kool points.
  23. I love lime…not by itself, I just love the flavor. Any citrus really. Grapefruit is my favorite fruit.
  24. My favorite musical is Thoroughly Modern Millie.
  25. I've always wanted to play the roll of Millie Dilmount (see above) on stage.
  26. I love color. I love putting combinations of colors together. My favorite part of quilting is choosing the fabric. Sometimes I don't even want to start the quilt because I just love the way fat quarters look all in stacked up.
  27. My second favorite part of quilting is figuring out how much fabric I need. (Remember…I love math.)
  28. I love pedicures. Who doesn't?
  29. I never tire of Mexican food.
  30. I love cilantro.
  31. I've always loved to dance, but never been good at it.
  32. I love holding leadership positions. Not because I'm power hungry, but because I like having a hand in what goes on. I like feeling needed. I especially like it when I was voted in.
  33. I was president of the IOTA MU chapter of LAMBDA PI ETA, a national communications honor society…voted in to office.
  34. I love children's books. My current favorites are Where the Wild Things Are, Fox in Socks, and anything by Sandra Boynton.
  35. I frequently wear slippers around the house.
  36. My middle name is Michelle.
  37. I'd take fruit flavored candy over chocolate any day. My favorites include Skittles, Starburst, Twizzlers, and Swedish Fish.
  38. I wore a hat at my wedding. I found it at an antique store two days before the big day and Aunt Debbie got to work re-covering it with the same fabric my dress was made out of. Thanks Debbie.
  39. My dad called me Sweet Pea and in his memory, I had sweet peas at my wedding.
  40. I was an EFY counselor.
  41. In high school track I ran the mile in 5 minutes and 33 seconds…and there were still three girls on my team who were faster than me.
  42. I ran the two-mile in 11 minutes and 10 seconds and I was the fastest girl on my team. It's all about endurance over speed. Ironically, I can barely jog one mile in that much time now.
  43. I was the producer for our stake musical a couple years ago.
  44. As a kid, I wanted to be an actress, an astraunaut, and a fashion designer when I "grew-up."
  45. My cousin Brittnee and I found any excuse to make "movies." We used to stay up late, put the video camera on a tripod, and reinact SNL sketches.
  46. I was on the USU racquetball team. We didn't have enough girls to make up a whole team so I never got to play in a competition…and it doesn't say much about my abilities either. But in our weekly playoffs, I always came in first or second. It makes me feel awesome to say I played a college sport anyway.
  47. I warmed the bench one season on the high school basketball team.
  48. I pass out easily. I have passed out while running, while praying, and three times I have passed out in the temple. It's especially bad during pregnancy.
  49. I love going places that require getting all dressed up. I love getting all dressed up.
  50. I have gone out in public in clothes made out of paper bags and masking tape…shout out to my super friends!
I am not tagging anyone by name because I've tagged people for random facts before. You're all welcome to try if you dare. Please don't go over 50…I'm competitive remember? I really enjoy reading these kinds of things...so go for it.

Those are some amazing random things about you and I enjoyed all of them! I don't think I could even come up with 10 for me, so I won't try! You are one chic, fun, and fabulous gal- so glad you are my friend!

I was surprised at how much I did--and didn't know! I don't think I could come up with that many random and interesting things about myself... but I may give it a try.

Katie, these are so fun to read. You are one fun girl. I kept smiling b/c I have more in common with you than I knew.

A few-the fat quarters. I don't quilt but I love fabric assembled together. I LOVE cilantro and like lemon. I too love leadership-for the same reasons.

How AWESOME about the sweat peas. So cool. I had a slew of other responses while reading these but can't think of them now? What a treat.

I don't think I can resist doing this. I love these.

I pretty much knew all of this about you....except the wetting the bed thing--remind me to put a plastic mattress cover on my guest bed if you ever come to visit!=)

By the way..Cameron is very impressed with your 1 mile and 2 mile stats..he is obsessed with running (just like his wife- yeah right)

You're lucky I didn't put all my 100 things up! j/k :) LOVED reading that! I loved that you had sweet peas at your wedding and I REALLY want to see that hat. I, too, am a HUGE cliantro and Mexican cuisine fan.
That is so funny that you said you love leadership positions. I LOVE them too. I would try and get myself voted as Young Women president way back when. :)I think your'e right. I think it's about feeling needed.
You are fabulous. Again, loved reading it...

ha ha! This was great! Watch that tail bone! Yikes! I can't believe you have the same repulsion to chewing sounds that I do! I can't stand it and Aaron things I am crazy- I read that to him so he would know it wasn't just me! Thanks for sharing! :)

That is a great list. I wouldn't have pegged you to be the super-competitive type. Who knew?
I have seen photos of your paper bag outfit. I never realized you actually went out on the town in it!
