So about Mother's Day...

If you're in the mood for a sappy, yet uplifting, post on Mother's, you've come to the wrong place.

Following Mormon tradition, the primary kids got up on the stand at church to sing a cheesy song to the congregation. And when I say cheesy I mean like "Mother dear I love you so. Your happy smiling face is such a joy to look at. You make home a lovely place." Right. I'm sure my kids will never utter those words to me and mean it.

Parker even braved it on my behalf and went to the front. I can never talk him into that. And really, I was proud of him for making that effort. But it was of course MY kids that got into a brawl on the stand and had to be stopped by a member of the bishopric.

Sacrament meeting was saved. We had two FANTASTIC speakers. Best I've heard in a long time. Maybe ever. And to top it off...this year's Mother's Day gift was NOT a tacky flower. We got cookies. SCORE!

Then it was time for primary and the kids were SO ROTTEN. I lost it and yelled. YELLED at the primary kids. I told them they were driving me crazy and to knock it off. Yes, those are the actual words I used. I am SO not cut out for this. I get sick to my stomach every Saturday night when I begin thinking about having to go to primary the next day. I was very honestly hoping that one of my kids would wake up sick just so I could stay home. I think I need to be fired from primary. The kids need someone more loving than me.

The good news is, I have 9:00am church. I was home by 12:30 and had the rest of the day for it to get better. I took a pleasant, uninterrupted afternoon nap and woke up to a steak dinner. Spencer really knows how to do Mother's Day right and I was off duty all day. It was awesome.

I talked to my mom expecting her to be having a lousy Mother's Day visiting her 29 year old son in a nursing home. But she was in better spirits than I've seen in a long time. Mike was moved out of his specialty hospital and into a nursing home this weekend. You'd think a nursing home would be rotten, but the specialty hospital was an all around bad experience. The staff at the nursing home have been great. They are really supportive and upbeat. Mike needs that (as do Mom and Lisa).

So in summary: Sappy songs. On stage brawl. Great meeting. Cookies. Yelled at primary. Good nap. Good dinner. Good news from Mom. Off duty. The pro's outweigh the cons. I am a fan of Mother's Day.

I wish I could have seen the on-stage brawl! Our ward put the Elder's quorum in charge of the Mother's Day gift this year, so it was up to Nathan. We got chocolates. And good ones. Delightful. Brian decided to get up at 5 am this morning and Nathan played with him while I slept blissfully until 7:45!!! (Isn't it funny that 7:45 feels like a major sleep-in these days!?!) Mother's Day is the best.

And I LOVE your Cinco de Mayo pictures. Spencer in the mustache is the best.

our ward rocked with the gifts for Moms this year (although I was in the hall and didn't get one) they handed out truffles and bath and body works lotion...awesome, right?

We have over 150 kids in our primary and they drive me nuts. I would not do good in there ;)

Every woman in the ward, even primary and YW workers came into the gym and we got cheesecake and just got to chat together with each other and with the bishopric for the whole Relief Society hour. It was awesome.
I love a brawl in the chapel. It makes for good stories around the dinner table!
And why, on mother's day, do we want so desperately to take a day off from being a mother? I don't know, but I LOVE to take a nap, not have anyone bother me, and wake up to a hot and delicious dinner made by someone else. I love mother's day.

Happy Mother's Day you are great!

When we first moved to TX I was put into our primary presidency and it was a disaster!! We had to physically pull brothers off of each other and take others children out for kicking and punching each other. EVERY Sunday I would come home from church and cry for a 1/2 hour to an hour and then fall asleep for 2 (on really bad days 3). I resented everyone who said that Sunday was their favorite day because it was so peaceful. I remember worrying, debating, and the feeling of ashamed when I finally decided to talk with the Bishop. I didn't know what to say because I was always taught you can't say no to a calling or be asked to be released but I couldn't continue this way. From this experience I have realized that the Bishop doesn't know everything and sometimes he needs to be told. You might not get released but at least he is aware of how you feel and that can (not always) make a difference.

For the record, I never saw the brawl- and my kiddos said nothing about your "yelling" in Primary- so apparently, you aren't as mean as I am, because they remember when I do!! You are fantastic in Primary- mine love you in there- and you can yell at them anytime!!
I loved the talks yesterday too- it was a great Sacrament meeting-
I got in a nap yesterday too- but somehow had to fix dinner and do baths- how crappy is that?!
Glad to hear your mom had a nice day too- and that Mike is in a better living space- that is great news!

Sorry but the Mother's Day brawl sounds entertaining and memorable (maybe not for you tho!) :) I totally get the Primary thing hoping a kid will wake up sick... lol. Are you the president? I feel your pain :)

HAA!!! I can so relate, I love everything about your post! My boys did not have an on stage brawl, but...when the music started for the Tra la, la, la, la, la, la...they couldn't stop laughing. They can't stand singing that song. Every time I ask them to help me out I start singing it and they run away...we got cookies this year too and they were fabulous!

GOODNESS! I feel even worse for not being there!! Glad your Mom had a good day! Glad Spencer treated you so well!

I love that your boys decided the stage was as appropriate place as any to duke it out! I think I may call you just to talk about Primary. Glad to know I'm not the only one who dreads Sunday for that reason. I feel horrible, but let me just say...it's a mission field down here!!!! I really do want to chat about what nursing home Mike's at. Brett's company owns a bunch of nursing homes in Utah and I want to make sure he's getting the best attention/care.
