Super Mike

Yesterday, outlook on Mike was pretty grim (and if I'm really being honest, it probably still is), but today, there have been slight improvements. Any improvement in my book is major. The doctors now say they are "cautiously optimistic." And my mom said he looks better today, too.

I know that Michael is a fighter...has been his whole life. If you know anything about Michael, you'd know he has this mentality that he's invincible. I'm sure that's doing him at least a little bit of good right now. The fact that he's still fighting after more than 24 hours is pretty miraculous. Mike is pretty much a superhero.

I also know that Michael has an amazing support system. I was worried about how little family we have in Utah. He has Lisa, of course. And my great aunt and uncle headed to the hospital immediately. My mom got there yesterday evening with another aunt. But the hospital waiting room has been consistently filled with friends and well-wishers. Apparently, he has quite a BIG family in Utah after all.

Social networking is amazing. There has been an outpouring of support from friends and strangers alike...not only for Mike, but for our family and Lisa (who is family in my book) as well. I know that prayers are being heard and answered...for that I am sincerely grateful. It's certainly doing some good.

On a much more trivial note, I decided to turn my nervous habits into something productive. Rather than just pacing the floor, I painted my kitchen. I got over half of it done today.

Despite trying to keep a positive tone here, Michael, though stable at the moment, is still in the ICU, still in a coma, and still in critical condition. He will be having reconstructive surgery on his face tomorrow. Please keep up the prayers.

I'm not exactly sure what the doctors mean by "cautiously optimistic," but I'm pretty sure that's how I feel too.

Oh Katie,
I just got home from having Gennifer do my hair, and we both could not think of anything else but Mike. I am so glad you posted an update. Is there ANYTHING I can do besides pray? I am thinking of you all the time. Mike has an amazing family and support system, and that is so important. Keep painting, keep moving, just keep on.....and know we are holding you all up in prayer. Please tell your Mom we are thinking of her, and most of all, of Mike. Love you.

You are very smart to dig into a project. I have been very unfocused trying to get work done around here the last couple days. It's hard being far away. Thanks for sharing information with us.
Love you Katie.

So glad for the update Katie. Mike and all of you are continuing to be in my prayers too. I'm so glad that there are so many people there for your Mom and Lisa in Utah. I will continue to pray, and to wish Super Mike well wishes and positive energy. And like my Mom said, keep on keeping on. Keep painting. Hugs and prayers tonight,
Genn

He's on all the temple prayer rolls in Utah and the Dallas prayer roll. He'll be on the other local temples tomorrow. Here's hoping he pulls through and all is well!

Just thinking of you tonight Katie and all of the fun memories that I have of you and your brother. I'm so glad that I've gotten to re-connect with you guys this past year. We have kept him in every prayer ever since we heard. My heart hurts for you. I know that the Lord loves him and will take good care of him. It gives me comfort to know that he's probably had about a billion blessings by now. Thanks for keeping us posted. Keep painting. Are you going to be able to make it down here anytime soon??

Like Amanda, your situation has been on my mind constantly...if its on MY mind all the time-how are you surviving?! Way to put it to work with the kitchen! I have a guest room I'm itching to get to but I think it will still be a solid month. Good for you!
