Green Day

I finally made the switch.

I've been considering re-usable shopping bags for a couple years now. But I kept thinking it sounded like a hassle when shopping for a family of five. How many bags would I have to accumulate before I had enough? And carry them all while shopping?

But this summer I decided to buy one or two bags each time I shopped for groceries. By the time I had six bags, I already had enough. They're much bigger than the typical plastic grocery bag so I don't need near so many. And re-usable bags are so handy in an apartment when I can't park right in front of my door. I can carry all the groceries at once since the bags can slip over my shoulder. Though it would be easier to carry in more than one trip...it's an awkward 100 meters from my car to the front door. They're super handy on my quick walks to Kroger. It's a much easier way to carry a gallon of milk home.

Overall, I'm happy with the switch. It feels good.

I bought one at Aldi b/c I needed a really big bag-I like the size.

I've been thinking the same thing. I HATE the plastic bags! I guess I can be a little bit green.

Good for you. It seems like it would be a hassle for the people bagging groceries. Is it? I should make the switch . . . at least in my smaller shopping errands.

I've been using them for a while and love them. Our grocery store gives you 5 cents off for each bag you bring (not a huge amount, but it adds up.) Target checkers bug - I go there a lot for grocery shopping and most are super peeved over reusable bags...although they SELL them in their own store with "Go green, use reusable bags" signs. Annoying.

I love them! I haven't had them for very long but I feel better about myself. I'm doing my part in saving the world one grocery bag at a time.

way to go katie. I have thought about it too. I havent ever bought one, but now I am thinking about getting one or two each time I shop. and I hate having TONS of bags stuffed next to the fridge. One day... one day.

I've been feeling guilty because I can't make the switch. I want to be more "green", but we reuse all of our plastic grocery sacks as trash bags, and Jake takes his lunch to work in them, and we use them as poop bags for the dog. So technically, I am recycling those and getting my use out of them.

Way to go on the switch. If I didn't reuse mine so much I would do it too.

I've been thinking the same thing too... but I'm like Genn... I use them as trash bags and to throw out dirty diapers. Maybe I'll use them for small trips.

I have a trunk full of them, from all the stores, Trader Joe's, Henry's, Alberstson's, Stater's....and I almost ALWAYS forget to bring them in with me.
I bought two cute ones today at Henry's, and I am really going to try to use them when I do my marketing. They are supposed to credit you 5 cents for every bag of your own you use too.

Interesting take on the topic- I have been curious as well. Hmmmmm- maybe I will start accumulating.

Hmmmm- but yet, another thought- If I totally switched over- what would we scoop the kitty litter into. Something to think about. Maybe do a 50/50 kind of thing.

I've been thinking about making the switch too. I know I need to, but we reuse the plastic ones just like Genny does. But I think I'll do it soon!

Great job! Now here is the tricky part..you have to remember to take them with you to the store:) I have several bags, but I have taken to using them to storing things..they are a good sized bag right?? Then I dont remember to grab them on my way out! Good luck with that:)
