Moving has kept me VERY busy this past week. I even had to suffer a few days without access to the internet...a couple days might as well have been an eternity. It was awful. I've been seriously neglecting the blogging world...my only link to life outside of my home. (Sorry for the lack of comments on everyone's blogs...I know we all live for comments.) But I still have no time to catch up at the moment.
So another rerun it is. This one takes us back to last year at Christmas time when Parker pulled the fire alarm at church.

Genetics
As a youth when told I better behave because I'll have a child that turns out just like me, my thought was always, I hope so. I quite like myself. I would consider myself lucky.
When those thoughts ran through my head, I certainly wasn't thinking about the time I pulled the fire alarm during tithing settlement. I don't remember how old I was when I did this, but I know Bishop McKee was the bishop and he always gave us those sugar coated gummy Sunkist candies at tithing settlement. (As a side note...Bishop McKee's daughter is now in my new ward.) I think it was a week night. I know my parents were embarrassed. I remember just being curious about what it was. Those are the only details I can recall.
Yesterday was tithing settlement for us. It was a long day at church. We were there from 7:30am to 2:00pm because of meetings, tithing settlement and a song rehearsal. Tithing settlement was at the very end of this long block of time. My crazies were hungry, tired and restless, as was I. When it was finally our turn to be next, we decided to wait right outside the bishops office as not to waste even a second of time. That did not prove to be the case you see, because the fire alarm is also right outside the bishop's office. Before we knew what was happening, Parker pulled the fire alarm and sirens were sounding, only making us even later as the Bishop was taking care of things.
Can pulling the fire alarm during tithing settlement possibly be genetic? The difference between when I did this, and Parker doing this is that two other wards were in the building at this point...one in the middle of sacrament meeting. Whoops!
There have been several instances in my life since my dad died that I have felt his presence. Yesterday was one of those times. Only this was a first for me...I could almost hear him laughing.

This is the first post I ever read of yours. I thought of you yesterday at church because we had a kid pull the fire alarm during Sac. mtg. He was in the other ward. :)
I love this story. I hope your moving is going okay! I HATE being disconnected from the web! Glad you survived. :) I always feel bad with catch up too...but if it helps its okay with me that you spend time moving vs commenting. :) Good luck!
That is hilarious! I totally missed that post! I guess its possible... genetics are a crazy thing!
That is too funny! It's definately something Derek would do. I bet your dad was laughing hard at that one! Crazy boys! =)
Yep, still love this story. What goes around comes around!
Very funny story Katie~ I crack up when you said you quite like yourself, so why would children behaving just like you be a bad thing! That is so true, and so funny. I am sure your Dad was laughing at that moment! How neat that you felt his presence.
LOVED that story Katie. You should write a book. " Life with my Crazies "
You have a way with words, and to me, you are like a modern day Erma Bombeck. You probably don't even know who that is.
I didn't know your Dad, but I have a very vivid memory of him. Your Dad, and Mom, and your entire family were standing on our front porch, singing On The 12th Day of Christmas, the evening you revealed your selves after choosing our family to do The 12 days of Christmas giving!!!
He was laughing for sure when your son pulled the fire alarm!!!

oh that is so funny- I had not heard this before- even when it happened! Wow.... and so much funnier that you had done the same thing! Your kids are turning out just like you! :) Oh, and I agree about Autumn- I just hope your move goes well- don't feel bad about not commenting. It is just good to read yours so we know how it is going down there. I think it would be hard for me to go non-internet at this point too! I think the addiction gets a bit stronger everyday.....
I love this post! Thanks for sharing it again.
