The Joke's On You

Amanda tagged me to share my most embarrassing moment. I like to think I don't easily embarrass, but I've got some doozies. Since I'm more than willing to embarrass myself on my on the world wide web, I've got to give you a top three. (Actually, I can think of worse than the first two, but even I have a limit of what I'm willing to share on my blog...plus these make good stories.)

So here they are in descending order:

embarrassing moment #3:
This was my junior year of college. Some friends and I were walking home from a Sunday night (church dress) ward potluck...it was a mixed group...girls and guys...Spencer included. We get to the parking lot in front of our apartment and for what reason I'll never know, Heidi takes a pan of leftover potatoes she was carrying and slides it down the steep and icy drive way. Thinking it was my pan, I chase after it before it slides into oncoming traffic. When I've about caught up to the pan, I realize it's Heidi's pan, not mine. Just as I'm yelling out, "Heidi! The jokes on you...!" I slip in the ice and slide myself right down that steep driveway with the pan of potatoes. I happened to be wearing a full skirt which is now tangled around my waist. I had tights on, but you know what tights look like up at the top over a pair of underwear...less than attractive. Spencer apparently liked what he saw because he proposed a few weeks later. Seriously there was at least twelve people there to witness it...every one of them laughing in hysterics. I ended up with a broken tail bone and Spencer was laughing way too hard to help me up off the ground. To this day, he laughs himself to tears when we bring up that story. I'm sure it was a sight.

embarrassing moment #2: Also on a Sunday. I was 16 or 17. Church was over and I had seen my dad chatting with a group of young adults. He had been their seminary teacher and this group was now together because one of them had just got home from his mission and had spoken in sacrament meeting that day. I knew my dad was over there talking but I had got distracted in the hall, so a few minutes later, I went over to the group and put my arm around my dad and said, "Let's go home." Well my dad was no longer there and it turned out to be Joel Thacker (the freshly returned missionary) that I put my arm around and apparently wanted him to take me home. Niiiiice. They all had a good laugh at my expense.

embarrassing moment #1:
This one may not be as funny...it's uncomfortably embarrassing and has to do with monthly girl problems. If that disgusts anyone too bad, you can stop reading now. I had really bad periods in high school. When they came on, they came on strong...like a faucet. I played basketball my freshman year and showed up to a game unprepared to start my period that day. A few minutes into the first quarter, it happened. Seriously, in seconds time I was sitting in a puddle on my chair. For whatever reason, the entire JV boys basketball team came to cheer us on that day and sat directly behind us. I was mortified. I couldn't leave my chair for anything. The coach was nice enough not to make me play, but I had to get up during half time for a group huddle and game plan. Traci was there and kindly tossed something on my seat for me so no one had so see that awful puddle and someone else guarded my back. I couldn't bring myself to go to the bathroom because it was clear on the other side of the gym and I would have had to cross the court in front of the stands of spectators to see...besides, what was the use, I was already soaking. It was seriously awful. I should send that in to TEEN Magazine or something.

The first two are funny embarrassing...not at all embarrassing anymore, just funny. But that third one has scarred me for life. Not funny...just embarrassing.

There you have it. I'm going with the fam and tagging Mom and Jeff. Anyone else who wants to play, PLEASE do. I officially tag you. I love reading these stories.

Hilarious!! I totally remember that story from your basketball game. Way to go Traci for helping Katie out. I love that you huged Joel Thacker. But be honest you knew it was him you just wanted to hug a return missionary.

Oh yeah I know Molly from a ward here in Virginia. It was the summer we were here on an internship and they were here for the summer as well while her husband was working on a project here. They are fun couple and we did a lot together and have kept in touch since then. Small world that your friends there know her. They live in Texas now too.

Those were great. I faintly remember hearing the basketball one. I love that you went up and hugged Joel. Too funny!

ps. I love that you ran down an icy hill just to save your pan... I think I would've let it go.

Hahaha I love the sliding on the ice story. That's the best. And as for the girl problems, I think every girl has had some kind of trama related to that. It could have been worse though, one of my friends had is start and didn't realize it until she had gotten 2 seats soaked and had to walk past the entire football team to the nurse to get it taken care of... now that's bad...

Yep- those are good ones! Thanks for sharing- your number 2 actually reminds me of another I blocked out. I was standing with a group of youth at church, talking (I was maybe 17). I thought Aaron was standing beside me so I reached out and grabbed his hand. But, no- it wasn't Aaron- they guy was about two years older than me and looked at me, like what planet are you from? Everyone thought it hilarious (it is now) and I just wanted to die! :) The one about you sliding down the ice is very funny- until you broke your tail bone! :( OUch! And the last one, wow- that would be awful- I have some feminine icky stories too, but not that bad! Wow- that would be rough!

You may have guessed that I have a really horrible memory (hence the fact I cant remember how old I am and yesterday I had to ask Cameron if it was 2008 or 2009), but I so don't remember the basketball game. I really don't remember much from high school, weird I know. I do remember the next year in basketball, I had the same thing happen except I didnt know it until I was about to go into the game, and Elsa Sanchez had to come and tell me my white shorts werent so white anymore. Yeah, embarassing.

Thanks for sharing your stories, I could perfectly picture the first two stories in my mind---I blocked out the underwear-tights picture though!

So, I can honestly say that number 2 is great...I think most LDS girls have a similiar story. Number 3 is just all out embarrassing because I played basketball and know what that would have been like.
Great stories!

Okay you win the most embarrassing "girl story"!
I have been busy and finally caught up on blogging. The toad post makes me laugh. I found a frog a few years ago and tried convincing the girls to kiss it to see if it was a prince. Autumn actually puckered up!

Love all the pictures from college. That is my only regret about not leaving home and going to school. All the fun antics I missed out on.

I loved that! SO funny, but not at your expense, I am laughing with you, not at you! I have to think about which one to pick of my many, many moments...stay tuned...so good talking with you today- I really miss seeing you each week, but chatting helped me catch up!

yep, holding hands is pretty darn funny (mortifying at the time though! :)) But, yes- I am laughing too. It would have made a good entry also- but I forgot about it until I read yours- I think I had blocked it from my memory! :):)

Very fun to read... I love your stories although I'm sure you didn't enjoy them. One of my worst fears in high school was to leak through... I'm sorry it happened to you. I bet it drives you nuts that Spencer gets such a kick out of the broken tail bone incident.

Those are GREAT stories. I have always been super afraid of incidents like the bball story-because I too had problems like that. I dreaded these monthly episodes in fear of what may be. UGH. What a pain. I love your description of Spencer's laughter. That is such a fun story!

Katie those stories are totally embarrassing! I don't think I have any like that. I cant believe you chased a pan down the icy driveway and broke your tail bone... too crazy!
